I am never cutting my hair again

I cut my hair last winter and I've been regretting it deeply ever since. I drew this as a little reminder to myself whenever the scissors start calling my name, maybe it'll come in handy for someone else with a similar love/hate relationship (love before the cut, hate for months -- possibly years -- afterwards) with haircuts. Just a small little update! These three new designs are available at Your Fan Club here.

New brooches

I just added five new brooch designs to my shops. The top two and bottom two are available at Flapper Doodle, and the X-Files brooch is available at Sweet and Lovely. All are laser-cut from black and white acrylic. I'm really excited about these, especially the Bookworm one!

The thinker

I drew this last year and completely forgot about it until I was looking for a different file on my computer today and stumbled upon it. I can't remember if I just forgot to list it in my shop or if I didn't like it enough to list in my shop, but either way... I like it now and I just listed it here.

We're Clearly Soldiers in Petticoats

This is actually the cover of my very first zine (coming soon!) but I was too excited to wait for the zine to be finished to share it. I'm pretty sure everyone is familiar with this song lyric, but just in case - it's from the Sister Suffragette song in Mary Poppins!

It's available as an art print in my etsy shop here. I also listed it on society6 -- I think it looks pretty awesome on tote bags especially!

Trust No One

My dad recently suggested that I do an X-Files drawing that somehow incorporated their constant use of flashlights. I loved the idea and this is what I came up with! Prints are available in my etsy shop here.

Maleficent

I went to see Maleficent at the movies twice in the last two weeks -- it's really good! I love how Disney is redefining the idea of True Love with this movie & Frozen.

With the inky black outfit and those beautiful horns I just had to capture Maleficent as a Flapper Doodle. The drawing is available in my etsy shop here.

By a Waterfall - Busby Berkeley inspired art

This new drawing is the first in a series of Busby Berkeley-inspired drawings that I've been brainstorming about for years. I was never quite sure how to fit this all on one single page, so I devised a little system with overlapping pieces of tracing paper -- it was complicated in the best possible way. I took photos of the process so I'll upload those tomorrow, if you're interested in seeing some behind-the-scenes peeks.

Your Fan Club

I just opened up a new etsy store for my newest project, Your Fan Club. The idea is that you can find a pin for any fan club imaginable -- burritos, obscure classic movie actors, tv icons, cult classic stars, etc. I started out with about 40 designs and plan on adding more on a semi-regular basis.

Each pin is laser-cut from black and white acrylic & features one of my drawings in the center. I'm especially excited about re-purposing some of my older classic film drawings and paintings that have been collecting dust in my studio drawer. I for one would definitely want to be a member of the Robert Montgomery Fan Club.

A Jumpsuit Built for Two

I was browsing etsy the other day and saw a listing in the searches for a jumpsuit where the title said something like "1970s vintage jumpsuit bu" and was cut off. For some reason my brain finished it as "built for two." Then I just had to draw it. So, my newest, oddest addition to the flapper doodle gallery - a jumpsuit built for two. Alice in Wonderland

The latest installment in my fairy tale series, this is my take on Alice in Wonderland. I took my sketchpad along with me to The Magic Kingdom in Disney World last week and sat in Liberty Square for a few hours sketching this out and then finishing it up. It was a truly magical afternoon.

The little mermaid

This is the first in a series of new flapper doodle illustrations based on classic fairy tales. I thought it would be fun to re-imagine these timeless characters with my bob-haired flappers in inky black and white drawings. I'm very happy with the first one, based on The Little Mermaid! New illustration: sweet dreams

A few nights ago my cats and I fell asleep like this, and I didn't want to ruin the moment by reaching for my phone to take a photo so I decided to draw it instead. Prints are available in my etsy shop and at society6.

New artwork available on etsy and society6

The 12 new illustrations that I completed for my 2014 calendar are now available as prints in my etsy shop. They're also available in my society6 shop as posters, note cards, iPhone cases, mugs, pillows, tote bags and more. I especially like how they look on the tote bags, particularly the one pictured on the right, which I titled "The sunny side of the street." With one exception, the titles of my new pieces come from the lyrics to some of my favorite classic tunes.
